The Gunners' boss remains confident that his side can persist in handling with fitness issues following revealing that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The Germany international has been sidelined for months following knee surgery. Originally slated to be available sooner, Arteta revealed the player faced a hurdle when increasing his training and could not progress “the next phase.”

“Our experience helped us build a group that is much more reliable and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This news creates a selection headache for the midweek match against Brentford. Arteta must choose between sticking with Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position last weekend, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also available after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Remain

Additional concerns involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to keep their places in the backline for the table-toppers.

Arteta feels the substantial investment on squad depth during the summer has left Arsenal in a much stronger position to handle such absences.

Squad Depth Vital for Title Challenge

When asked if increased squad depth was benefiting their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Yes, since the current term has seen more issues in certain positions, and now the problems with the backline,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in different positions, and they must be capable to perform various functions if we aim to challenge at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Star

Commenting on the complication previously mentioned by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered additional context. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the required step and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

He shared his personal desire to welcome him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Honestly, Havertz is someone that, personally, I value highly for his contributions to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I watch him struggle being outside.”
