The ex-lawyer for the former president has left her position as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This follows a legal ruling that questioned her legal standing to occupy the role.

Attorney General's Statement

US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, accepted the prosecutor's departure on the start of the week. In a statement that the judicial decision made it unworkable for her to effectively run her office.

"Do not interpret compliance for surrender," she declared. "The effort will now stretch across America."

Court Ruling

Her resignation comes a week after a judicial panel ruled that she had been unlawfully serving as the federal prosecutor. This ruling is expected to impact numerous criminal cases in the state.

The appellate judges ruled that a acting appointment that skirted confirmation by the US Senate ran afoul of the statute on vacant positions.

Future Role and Reaction

The Attorney General added that the former prosecutor will continue working within the DOJ as a top consultant. She will pursue additional appeals of the disqualification, in the hope of achieving a different outcome.

Writing online, Bondi wrote that judges "cannot be permitted to override the executive's selection of lawyers responsible for carrying out the executive branch's core responsibility of enforcing the law."

Accomplishments Cited

Bondi commended her tenure and noted that under her leadership, the city of Newark saw a one-fifth decrease in criminal activity. It was also reported that the city of Camden had its initial homicide-free summer since 1974 with no murders.

Legal Career

The 41-year-old attorney, was initially recruited to Trump's personal legal team in recent years. She later acted for Trump in his business records case in New York last year, which resulted in his guilty verdict on dozens of charges of document fraud.

Before Habba took on the federal prosecutor position, Donald Trump had revealed he was selecting her as his presidential counsellor during his second administration, describing her as a steadfast ally and a relentless legal advocate.
